JIFSAN Delivers a GAP Training Course in Kingston, Jamaica

The JIFSAN Train-the-Trainer course for Good Agriculture Practices (GAP) was conducted from February 18-22, 2013 in Kingston, Jamaica in cooperation with the Jamaican Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Rural Economic Development Initiative, Jamaica Social Investment Fund, and The World Bank. The JIFSAN training team included Donna Pahl, Maria Plaza, and James Rushing. There were 54 participants in the program.

Classroom activities included lectures and discussion facilitated by case studies. On day 3 the group had an extended field trip to a production area and two packing facilities for tropical vegetables destined for export to the U.S. Since this program was delivered the collaborators in Jamaica have been proactive in conducting their own training programs and exploring their options for food safety programming in accordance with the proposed Fresh Produce Rule.
